Branham ace sends Bulldogs home with 4-1 loss
SAN JOSE — Out of the frying pan and into the fire, Sobrato on Tuesday had to face Branham’s ace, Chris Mendoza, a game after taking its lumps against Zach Jones of Santa Teresa.

The result was similar.

Mendoza (3-3) went the distance, striking out seven in a six-hit effort, as the Bruins handed the Bulldogs a 4-1 loss in San Jose.

Sobrato (5-8 overall) fell into a three-way tie with Live Oak and Leland for fourth place in the Mount Hamilton Division at 4-5. Branham (7-6, 5-4) is tied for second place with Leigh.

Chris Bradley supplied the Bulldogs’ only offensive output with his solo home run in the first inning. Bradley finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, batting 3 for 3.

Sobrato junior Ryan Williams (3-1) worked his third straight complete game. He struck out three and scattered 13 hits.

For the Bruins, Nick Rossetta and Mendoza batted 3 for 4. Rossetta doubled, and Mendoza tripled and drove in two runs.

Sobrato will host the Bruins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
