A memorial service in celebration of the life of former Morgan Hill Mayor Dennis Kennedy will take place 10 a.m. April 30 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 17400 Peak Ave.
Additionally, from April 27 to April 30, the City of Morgan Hill will lower its flags at all city facilities in Kennedy’s honor and memory. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to do the same, according to city staff.
Kennedy died March March 28 at the age of 77, after a 10-month battle with brain cancer. He served as mayor of Morgan Hill from 1992 to 2006, after serving several years on the city planning commission and city council. He re-entered the political scene in 2013, when he was appointed a Director of the Santa Clara Valley Water District and was re-elected to that seat in 2014.
The whole time, Kennedy—a mechanical engineer who retired after a 25-year career with IBM—volunteered with a number of nonprofit service organizations, including the Sister Cities Committee, Rotary Club of Morgan Hill and the Morgan Hill Downtown Association. He was the 2007 recipient of the Morgan Hill Leadership Excellence Award, and the 2015 winner of the Gavilan College Lifetime Community Spirit Award.Â
