Mayor Steve Tate will talk about recent and ongoing economic woes and how they might shape Morgan Hill’s future when he delivers the 2010 State of the City address Monday.
“We want to see where we want to go, and figure out what we can do this year, to get there,” Tate said.
The nation’s cities and counties continue to wallow in an undercurrent of despair tied to multiple consecutive years of service cuts and layoffs.
Last year, the city of Morgan Hill cut about $2 million out of its budget, including the elimination of 16 positions, and this year faces a $1.7 million budget deficit.
But Tate said some good things happened in Morgan Hill in 2009. He will discuss those positive changes in his annual address.
“Everything is so bad economically, but we made tremendous progress as a city in 2009. I think we have a solid vision of the future,” Tate said.
The 2010 State of the City address will take place 7 p.m. Monday, in the El Toro Room of the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road.
