Actually, I did not have an 800 on the SAT/math – it was only a 774 – and I went to Cal, not Cal Tech, but let’s not quibble. Journalistic accuracy as to detail seems to be out of fashion these days; why buck the trend?
As for his calling me the biggest nerd in his high school, may I merely respectfully point out that, to use his delicate phrase (from his 4/2/04 column), the pulley on my flagpole has not yet jammed, thank Heaven! And that’s what’s really important, isn’t it?
He should keep in mind that mathematicians know all the angles. And, unlike lawyers, we never lose our appeal.
