The real reason for all the fungus-eating and fun-making at the annual Morgan Hill Mushroom Mardi Gras is to make money to give back to the community. The Mushroom Mardi Gras is a charitable, nonprofit organization, from which every dollar above and beyond the cost of putting on the festival goes into the scholarship fund, as well as providing donations to nonprofit clubs and organizations who participate in the festival.

The Mushroom Mardi Gras Committee has issued more than $600,000 in scholarship funds for continuing education. Family, relatives and friends and the general public will be able to meet these outstanding students at the Community Center Amphitheater Stage at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
