Manuel Romero of Gilroy died Aug. 16, 2003, at his home. He was 69.

Manuel was a native of San Luis Obispo. He moved to the Santa Clara Valley as a young boy and attended Live Oak High School before moving to Gilroy. He was well known throughout the area for building Triumph motorcycle racing engines and owned and operated a machine shop in Gilroy for more than 40 years. He loved tinkering and manufacturing out of his shop and spent many pleasant hours there. Manuel was employed for Geo. E. Hall Motorcycles in Gilroy for 12 years. Prior to his retirement he worked for South Valley Refuse. He was an avid motorcycle rider and racer and enjoyed camping with his family and friends at Pismo Beach. He always said, “If you are going to come over and party, you are going to party hearty.” He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Romero of Gilroy; children Bryan Romero of Gilroy, son and daughter-in-law Manuel Luis and Ginger Romero of Newman, son Manuel Anthony Romero of Gilroy, daughter Suzanne Romero of Gilroy, daughter Karen Romero, daughter Sharen Romero, daughter Norma Romero and daughter Susan Romero; stepchildren Kim and Carlene Romero; brothers Richard Luis and Inez Romero of El Sobrante, Jesse Ybarra of Gilroy and Tony Gonzalez of Gilroy; sister Ester Lopez of Garnerville, Nev.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at his home. The family asks that any donations be made to the Kidney Foundation. A trust account has been set up in Manuel’s name at Wells Fargo Bank, Acct. # 0314036948.

Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.
