This is such a great time of year with events and celebrations almost every weekend.
The 20th Wildflower Run is scheduled for April 13. This is the American Association of University Women’s, Morgan Hill Branch, annual fundraiser for scholarships for women and girls. Our community appreciates all the outstanding programs and authors they have brought to us in the past few months.
Partnershipping really does pay off, when you have team members like our City, Morgan Hill Library, the Friends of the Library, Book Smart Bookstore, the Morgan Hill Times and local schools. Check out their website at www.aauw-morganhill.org or to volunteer for the Run call Sandy at 779-0112.
April 27 is the Santa Clara Valley Wine Growers Association Spring Festival which is always a fun filled adventure. We live in the oldest continiously producing wine region in California. The festival and bbq runs from noon until 5 and you can also stay the night at Casa de Fruta. For more information visit their site at www.scvwga.com
I had the honor of visiting with several outstanding young teens who chose to fight world hunger by fasting for 30 hours. Jessica Matts, Crystal Roma, Jessica Moritz and adults Linda Roma and Noel Moritz drank only water and juice for 30 hours to experience what hunger truly feels like. They were part of 30 hour famine and you can learn more about hunger at www.thehungersite.com. and www.30hourfamine.com
If the events of the world are troubling to you, please visit http://www.presidentialprayerteam.com. You can choose to have a military person prayed for and you can also adopt a service member to pray for. On this same note, the National Day of Prayer is quickly approaching, so mark May 6 on your scheduler and join in prayer with our city.
We have been challenged by our president to volunteer our services to improve and safeguard our country. We can do this by becoming ready for a natural disaster or terrorist threat. The Community Emergency Response Training program and classes will be offered for seven Tuesday evenings beginning April 1 through May 13.
We have been blessed by the South County Neighborhood Disaster Preparedness Project working with our city leaders for the past six years. Disaster Deb was an integral part of this project and Robert Kelley now is the contact with our city’s Office of Emergency Services. For more information please call Paul at 776-1225 or Donna at 779-8068.
The final class is a diaster drill on May 17 and volunteers are needed to be victims. Highschoolers needing community service hours, please call … your talents are needed for this to be an incredible learning experience.
