Live Oak’s Isaiah Locsin won his first two matches at the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield on Friday but not without a little excitment.
The unbeaten sophomore, ranked second in the state, opened the 113-pound tournament at Rabobank Arena with his closest victory of the season, an 8-6 decision over No. 14 Johnny Sanchez of Santa Ana. Locsin had no trouble in the second round, pinning Elk Grove sophomore Ethan Larrabee in one minute, two seconds.
Locsin will next wrestle No. 15 Sean Williams, a Lemoore junior, in the third round, which begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by the quarterfinals at 7:30.
The 40th annual tournament resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday.
