It was a night of nonalcoholic drinking, dancing and eating as students from Live Oak High School sampled all the places they’ll go in their post-graduation life.
Themed after the Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” a popular graduation gift, Live Oak High School’s 22nd annual Grad Night took place from 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. June 5. About 175 teens attended.
The decorations popped, featuring journeys to Space, Egypt, Monte Carlo, Hawaii and the great 50 states of America.
Sobrato High School’s Grad Night was about the same time and date.
Both events are aimed at keeping graduating seniors in a healthy environment.
“It was very awesome, it was a lot of fun,” Live Oak graduate Brittanie Lloyd said.
After stuffing herself with egg rolls, smoothies, strawberries and more, Lloyd took off for the casino tables.
“It was good memories for a lifetime,” she said.
Grad Night volunteer Adrienne Acosta said the events are important in that they keep teens entertained and safe on a night that can be dangerous for teens and the community.
“This was a lot of work, it is a labor of love for our kids to have their last night at LO to be one they will always remember, in a place they have spent four years at,” Acosta said.
Live Oak’s event featured a wide variety of activities including a rock climbing wall, obstacle course, sumo wrestling, jousting, casino, massage chairs, henna artists, caricaturists, dancing all night, a hypnotist and a black light crash room with golf and movies.
As usual, the students had multiple opportunities to work off their ticket price of $100 with numerous fundraisers. Some students didn’t pay anything at all, according to Acosta.
“Our goal is to get every senior in Morgan Hill to attend Grad Night. Live Oak welcomes students from Central and Sobrato,” Acosta said.
Story will be updated with details from Sobrato’s event.
