Twenty years from now, Morgan Hill should be…
Local residents will get another opportunity to complete the above sentence July 24 when the Morgan Hill City Council and Planning Commission hold a joint study session on its general plan vision statement and goals – tagged “Morgan Hill 2035.”
The session, opened to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. inside the Hiram Morgan hill Room of the Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center (17000 Monterey Road).
“It is important for the community to get involved in the visioning process,” reads the City’s announcement. “This is an opportunity for the public to shape their future.”
The existing vision statement and goals – which will help guide development, growth and land use in the City over the next 20 years – were set in 2001.
Morgan Hill 2035 includes comprehensive updates to the City’s major land use planning documents, including the General Plan, which describes what residents, business people and property owners envision for Morgan Hill’s future.
At the joint study session, the City Council and Planning Commission will review a draft vision statement and goals related to land use and development, growth management, economic development and housing.
The public will also have the opportunity to comment on the draft.
The City collected public feedback on the existing General Plan Vision Statement and Goals through a June 6 community workshop and then received more feedback June 27 from the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC), which is composed of Morgan Hill citizens.
City staff and the Morgan Hill 2035 consultant team have also suggested revisions, and have drafted a revised vision statement and goals to incorporate this input.
As part of their review and discussion of the revised vision and goals at the joint study session, the City Council and Planning Commission will provide staff and the consultant team with any input they may have for incorporation into the draft general plan update document.
