Five local wineries collected 20 awards in the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, which is hailed as the largest competition of American wines in the world.
After receiving 7,000 entries from 28 states across the country, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition narrowed thousands of wines down to an exclusive few.
Creekview Vineyards (eight awards) in San Martin, Castillo’s Hillside Shire Winery (five) in Morgan Hill, Guglielmo Winery (three) in Morgan Hill, Clos La Chance (two) in San Martin and Lion’s Ranch Vineyards & Winery in San Martin were among the local winners.
Clos La Chance took home the highest praise of the locals with a Double Gold for its 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon along with a Bronze for its 2015 Chardonnay.
Creekview Vineyards earned a Gold for its 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon; two Silver for its 2012 Syrah/Shiraz and 2012 Zinfandel; and five Bronze for its 2012 Creekview Vineyards, 2014 Chardonnay, 2012 Merlot, 2013 Zinfandel and 2013 Zinfandel Based Blends.
Castillo’s Hillside Winery garnered Gold for its 2014 Merlot; three Silver for its 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014 Cabernet Dominant Blends and 2013 Petite Sirah; and a Bronze for its 2013 Sangiovese.
Guglielmo Winery received three Silver for its 2015 Dolcetto, 2015 Other White Varietals and 2013 Zinfandel.
Lion’s Ranch Vineyards & Winery was selected for Gold for its 2014 Grenache and Bronze for its 2014 Other White Varietals.
