Pride Flag Raising
The City of Morgan Hill will raise the rainbow Pride flag at a 9am June 1 ceremony at the flagpole in the plaza between City Hall and the Council Chambers building on Peak Avenue. The Pride flag will fly on the city flagpole throughout the month of June, designated locally and in cities throughout the state as Pride Month.
Ranch Day at Coe
Meet farm animals and learn how to churn butter, spin wool, tool leather, drive a tractor, ride a horse and rope a steer at Ranch Day at Coe Park, 10am to 3pm June 2 at the Henry W. Coe State Park Hunting Hollow entrance in Gilroy. Ranch Day offers a wide variety of fun activities and games for children and families. The event is free, but a required parking fee is $6. A hot dog lunch will be available for $3.50. Kids may want to bring rubber boots to play in the creek. The Hunting Hollow entrance to Coe Park is located on Gilroy Hot Springs Road.
Jake’s Wish Fundraiser
Help at-risk dogs in need find their forever home while enjoying live entertainment, local beer and wine, food trucks and a silent auction at a June 2 fundraiser for local non-profit Jake’s Wish Dog Rescue. The fundraiser, known as Jake’s Fest, will take place from noon to 6pm at Kelly Brewing, 70 E. Fourth St. Attendees can bid on a variety of exotic silent auction prizes, including trips to Mexico, Hawaii and Carmel and plenty of fun wine excursions. The fundraiser will also feature a kissing booth, photo booth and several vendors selling ceramics, T-shirts and more. Proceeds benefit Jake’s Wish Dog Rescue, a volunteer-driven non-profit established in 2014 with a mission to help dogs in underserved shelters that are most at risk. Jake’s Wish has rescued and placed more than 1,000 dogs in the last five years. Friday Night Music
The Chamber of Commerce’s annual summertime Friday Night Music Series starts June 14, with a performance headlined by the Houserockers. The event takes place 6-9:45pm Fridays at the Downtown Amphitheater, 17000 Monterey Road. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and dancing shoes. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Food vendors Kiwanis Morgan Hill and the Morgan Hill Grange will donate 100 percent of sales proceeds back into the community for youth scholarships. Attendance and parking are free.
Volunteer to Drive
The Morgan Hill Centennial Recreation Center’s senior center is recruiting volunteer drivers for the local Get’n Around Town Program. Coordinators are looking for volunteers to drive older adults around Morgan Hill for their errands, grocery shopping and/or doctor visits on weekdays from 8am to 5pm. Drivers can choose when they would like to volunteer. The program will host a Volunteer Driver Recruitment event 10am to 11am June 17 at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave.
Summer Fun in the Park
Join the City of Morgan Hill June 27, 5:30-8pm for a free evening of fun activities and free gifts at Galvan Park, 17666 Crest Ave. At the Summer Fun event, families can meet and learn about free services provided by local non[-profit organizations and government agencies. Free food will be available for the first 250 attendees. Families are encouraged to bring their kids, as vendors will host fun and engaging games and activities.
Gypsy: Musical Masterpiece
The South Valley Civic Theater presents Gypsy: Musical Masterpiece at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, 17090 Monterey Road. Shows are June 14-July 6. The production is loosely based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, a famous striptease artist, and her mother, Rose. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit svct.org.
One Step Closer Benefit
A benefit auction for One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding will take place June 30, 5:30- 9:30pm at the Historic Coyote Ranch. The event features live entertainment, line dancing, a barbecue dinner and drinks, a silent auction and more. Tickets cost $75 per person.
