Best of Poppy Jasper

The Poppy Jasper International Film Festival invites area movie and film fans to a Nov. 2 fundraiser featuring a screening of the 2018 festival’s “Best of Festival” entries. Enjoy a series of short and feature-length films from around the world at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, 17090 Monterey Road. Two screenings will take place at 6pm and 8pm. Tickets will be sold at the door, $15 for adults and $8 for students.

Holiday Boutique

The Morgan Hill Historical will host its annual holiday boutique 10am to 5pm Nov. 2-4 at the Hiram Morgan Hill House at Villa Mira Monte, 17860 Monterey Road. Enjoy holiday shopping in a beautiful setting, with vendors offering a variety of holiday gifts for everyone on your list. The Hiram Morgan Hill House will be decorated in all its holiday splendor.

Free Citizenship Workshop

Learn about how to become a U.S. citizen at a free workshop, 9am Nov. 3 at Gavilan College, 17060 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. If eligible, receive assistance in completing naturalization applications. See if you can qualify for a fee waiver, and receive free ESL and legal referrals. Coffee With the Mayors

For Mayor Steve Tate’s final “Coffee With the Mayor” session before he retires, he has invited whoever wins the Nov. 6 election to fill his seat as his special guest. The informal coffee meeting with the mayor will take place 10 to 11:30am Nov. 10 at BookSmart, 1295 E. Dunne Ave. Attendees are welcome to join the mayors for coffee and ask questions, provide input or submit comments about city business. All three mayoral candidates in the Nov. 6 election—Kirk Bertolet, Rich Constantine and Greg Sellers—have agreed to join the mayor as his special guest should they win.

Veterans Run

The fourth annual Morgan Hill Veterans Run 5k and 10k run will be held 9:45am Nov. 11. This will take place right after the downtown veterans ceremony. Holiday Parade

The Morgan Hill Kiwanis Club presents the annual Holiday Lights Parade and Tree Lighting from 5:30 to 8pm Dec. 1 in downtown Morgan Hill. The parade will go south on Monterey Road, from First to Fifth Street, followed by a ceremonial tree lighting, live performances and visits with Santa Claus. The event is free.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

St. Catherine Parish will host its annual Our Lady of Guadalupe procession from 11am to 12pm Dec. 9 in downtown Morgan Hill. The procession, honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, will start at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road, and conclude at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 17400 Peak Ave. For more information, visit stca.org.

History at the House

From 10 to 11:30am the first Saturday of every month, the Morgan Hill Historical Society invites the community to the Hiram Morgan Hill House at Villa Mira Monte, 17860 Monterey Road, for “History at the House.” Attendees are encouraged to share their knowledge of local history and landscapes during the ongoing monthly conversation. The event is open to the public and free.

Walk for fitness

The Morgan Hill Walking Group for Fitness meets for daily walks six days a week. Monday through Friday, the group walks from 6 to 7pm. On Saturdays, walks are from 9 to 10:30am. The group meets at the Morgan Hill Center parking lot at Hale and West Main avenues. The group walks at a moderate pace, rain or shine, year-round. Everyone is welcome, including pet dogs.

Bingo fundraiser every weekend

The Live Oak Emerald Regime hosts bingo every weekend at the Britton Middle School Auditorium, 80 W Central Ave. On Saturday, doors open at 4:15pm., warm-ups begin at 5:45pm, and games begin at 6:15pm. Learn to breathe easy

Bridge at the Rec Center

Bridge games are held Monday nights at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W Edmundson Ave. Open stratified games begin at 6:20pm.

Pickleball

Play pickleball, a tennis-type game in which a whiffle ball is hit over a low net with a paddle, Mondays, 8:30-11pm, at the Centennial Recreation Center gymnasium, 171 W Edmundson Ave. Play is free for rec center members, $8 for non-member seniors.
