Police believe alcohol, speed led to crash
Morgan Hill – A Morgan Hill man was taken to Valley Medical Center Thursday night with serious injuries after a one-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 11pm.

Jeremy Woodin, 23, had several broken bones and a dislocated hip after being ejected from the vehicle.

Police responded to a call from a nearby residence at the intersection of Butterfield Boulevard and Cochrane Avenue.

“Officers found the vehicle flipped over in the field at the intersection, but at first were unable to locate the driver,” MHPD Cmdr. Joe Sampson said. “The driver had been ejected and was found a short distance away from the vehicle.”

Woodin was incapacitated, he said, and was taken to the hospital, where a blood test was performed as a part of the investigation.

“The initial investigation revealed that both speed and alcohol were a factor in the accident,” said Sampson. “It appears he just kept driving when Butterfield ended, and flipped over in the field.”

If the results of the blood test show that Woodin was over the legal limit of alcohol, officers will seek to file charges for driving under the influence, Sampson said.

There is no indication that there was a passenger in the vehicle or that another vehicle was involved.

It is not clear if Woodin was wearing a seatbelt, Sampson said. It does not appear that he was ejected through the windshield; likely his door opened during the accident and he was ejected through the door, he said.
