Morgan Hill police arrested Michael Wesley Fisher, 30, a transient from San Jose, Friday on suspicion of committing a residential burglary earlier in the day.
Police were notified shortly after 11:30 p.m. by the victim, who lived in the 17600 block of Monterey Road. He reported that someone had entered his home through a window and removed computers, video games, DVDs, cell phones and credit cards.
According to Acting Sergeant Troy Hoefling, the police investigation discovered that some of the missing items had been left covered with a blanket in a field near the residence.
Officers began a surveillance of the area and less than an hour later a man (Fisher) drove into the area, went to the blanket-covered items and carried them to his vehicle.
When officers ordered him to stop, Fisher dropped the items and fled across Monterey Road where he was captured and taken into custody after a brief struggle.
The vehicle Fisher was driving was reported stolen from the San Jose area. Miscellaneous items found in the truck were related to a previous burglary at a storage facility in San Jose.
While Fisher was attempting to avoid police he removed a black leather jacket, with the credit cards in the pocket, stolen from the house and threw it on the ground in front of Britton Auditorium.
The jacket was missing when police returned to the area after taking Fisher to the police station. Anyone with information on the location of the jacket is asked to call the MHPD at 779-2101. The remainder of the stolen property was recovered.
