Acorns win opener 10-4 over Los Altos
SAN JOSE — Alika Bantilan hit a grand slam in the second inning, and the Live Oak baseball team opened the season with a 10-4 rout over Los Altos on Saturday in the Ted Tamone Tournament.
It was a battle between CIF-Central Coast Section finalists from a year ago. The Acorns won the Division III championship, and Los Altos lost the Division II title game to Wilcox.
“It was a good way to start the season against a quality opponent,” Live Oak coach Mark Cummins said in a postgame statement. “We executed well on offense, and Alika’s grand slam gave us a big lift.”
The Acorns totaled nine hits, getting two from Michael Schreiber, Tony Austin and Anthony Macadaeg. Schreiber doubled twice, and Austin drove in a pair of runs.
Sophomore Rich Martinez got the win, surrendering two earned runs in three innings.
“Defensively, we played well with Nick Gustafson and Anthony Macadaeg making nice catches in the outfield,” Cummins added.
Live Oak will resume the tournament at Washington Park at 8 p.m. Wednesday against Valley Christian. The Acorns’ game against Homestead was moved to 4:30 Friday.
