After a rebuilding season in the fall that turned out to be surprisingly successful, the Live Oak roller hockey club team is expecting to take the next step during the 2004 season.
With a full squad back, Live Oak has plans to move up a division and improve on its 3-6-1 record in the fall.
Live Oak had to rebuild its roller hockey team after losing its coach and several players from the nearly decade-old program which originally started at the old ice rink in Gilroy.
After a group of players and parents assembled the team, which is coached by Tim Simpson, they began playing in a high school league at Rollin Ice in San Jose.
Despite the odds stacked against the team, Live Oak won a few games and a playoff game to cap its season. Now, the team is set to move up to the more competitive divisions, and has added a JV team as interest in the program has grown.
Live Oak begins regular season play today and Saturday. Anyone who wants to join should call 779-7335.
