Maybe these two are just fit to be tied. For the second time this season, the Live Oak and Gilroy girls’ soccer teams fought to a 2-2 tie in a battle of the league’s top two teams.

During Friday night’s game in Gilroy, the Acorns jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Lena Marsh and Michelle McDonald, but Gilroy carried momentum into halftime after Brittany Barnes got the Mustangs on the board in the final minute of the half. Then, six minutes after the break, Joann Olivo-Pedroza tied it up when she kicked it in out of a crowd of players in front of the goal.

Clearly bothered by a few refereeing calls, the Acorns looked a bit flustered in the second half and Gilroy took advantage, dominating ball possession and walking away with a tie.

“We lost focus, starting with me,” LO coach Tony Vasquez said. “But there’s only so much I can take. Bottom line is we just lost our composure and it cost us.”

Live Oak (7-7-3 overall, 6-0-2 in league) travels to Leland today for a noon game against the team they tied for the CCS Division I title last season.

During the JV game, Acorn sophomore Ivana Saarl landed awkwardly on her head with around 10 minutes to go in the match. Saarl was carted into a helicopter, where she was flown to Stanford Medical Center to see a spinal specialist. She was reportedly conscious the entire way and was telling those around her that she felt the same way she did when she suffered a similar injury while snowboarding a year and a half ago.
