Tersini scores early and Acorns defense holds off Prospect in
1-0 win
Morgan Hill – After a hard week on the road where Live Oak suffered a 1-0 loss to Prospect, the Acorns faced off at home against Westmont on Thursday and brought forth a strong defensive effort in a 1-0 win.
Live Oak’s Kami Tersini slammed in a goal in the game’s sixth minute of an assist from left defender Sarah Locarnini.
After that, Live Oak earned a total of eight short corners, but none made it into the goal. There were many opportunities from Brooke Willis and Julia Hartl at goal thanks to the skills of sisters, senior Sarah Whitling and sophomore Amanda Whitling, who dominated the mid-field with their runs and sharp passes.
The game became intense in the last five minutes when Westmont tried to force the game to a tie, but defenders Locarnini and Kelly McDonald stepped up their game.
Despite troubles in clearing the ball, sweeper Holly Turray and center defender, Taylor Sutton held the agressive Westmont forwards and Live Oak held on for the win.
The Nuts, who are now 3-2-1 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Santa Teresa Division hope to carry the momentum to their next home game today against Lynbrook at 3pm.
