Live Oak boys basketball moved to 1-0 in league for the first
time since 2006 Thursday with a 61-58 victory over Yerba Buena at
Live Oak High School.
Eddie Plascencia had 15 points, and Austin Carvalho and Luke
Laguna scored 14 apiece to lead the Acorns, winners in two of their
last three.
Sophomore Kalum Bergstrom added eight points for Live Oak (4-7,
1-0), and Ardean Salvador two.

The teams finished fifth and sixth in the West Valley Division a year ago and battled just as closely in their latest meeting. The Acorns lead 17-9 after the first quarter and 29-28 at halftime but needed a big fourth quarter to put away Ricky Rivera and the Aztec Warriors (2-9, 0-1).
Rivera, a 6-foot senior wing, scored a season-high 26 points and hit two 3-pointers. Yerba Buena also received 10 points from Richardo Dao and Wilson Tran.
The Acorns played as the visiting team because Yerba Buena is remodeling its gym.
Live Oak is back at home today to face San Jose in West Valley Division play. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER
Live Oak rebounded from an opening loss to Santa Teresa to beat Independence 2-0 Thursday in Santa Teresa Division play.
Alexis Diaz and Chase Vandenbrandhorninge scored and set up goals for each other.
The Acorns (4-1-2, 1-1) will play their first home league match at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday against Prospect.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Sobrato fell to 0-2 in league play Thursday with a 41-37 loss to Silver Creek.
The visiting Bulldogs received 11 points from Jessica Westall and Jordan Smith and five from Gabrielle Smith and Tauheedah Id-Deen.
Sobrato (3-9) continues Santa Teresa Division play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gunderson.
- San Jose picked up its first win at Live Oak’s expense Thursday, beating the Acorns 45-16 in San Jose.
The Acorns (4-7, 1-1) were coming off a solid win over Yerba Buena to open West Valley Division play. They were led with 10 points by Courtney Thomson.
