Kelly McDonald’s long double to left-field in the seventh inning scored Taylor Sutton with the winning run Thursday as Live Oak edged Evergreen Valley 3-2 to remain unbeaten in the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
Sarah Locarnini started the seventh with a single. Sutton singled and Kourtney Kientzy was safe on an error. After a fielder’s choice, McDonald’s hit proved to be the game-winner as the Acorns improved to 7-2 overall, 3-0 BVAL.
Locarnini, who like McDonald had two hits and a walk in the game, scored the first two runs on errors. Meanwhile, Tricia Goularte pitched a five-hitter, striking out four and walking one.
Live Oak held on by playing strong defense with outfielders Jenna Robertson and Brooke Willis leading the way. McDonald had seven putouts at third base, and Ondich was solid at first base.
One day earlier, Live Oak came up with three runs in the ninth to defeat Piedmont Hills 7-4.
Brittney Ondich went 4-for-5 with an RBI to lead a 14-hit attack. Locarnini was 3-for-5 with a double, stolen base and an RBI, and Kientzy was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Goularte gained the win.
The Acorns have games on three consecutive days starting at 3:30pm Tuesday when they travel to Westmont. A rescheduled game with Leigh is at home Wednesday, and Live Oak is home at 3:30pm Thursday against Willow Glen.
