The Live Oak High roller hockey team came up short and lost 7-5 to Leigh on Friday at Rollin Ice.
Live Oak came out strong in the first two periods and held on to a consistent lead, but Leigh’s depth put the pressure on the Acorns and they ran out of steam in the final period.
Senior Brian Costello scored the first goal of the game for Live Oak before Leigh responded with a goal of their own.
Junior Michael Widergren then scored, followed by another goal from Costello off senior Conner Williamson’s assist to make it 3-1 Acorns. When Widergren put in the fourth goal, Live Oak was looking good as they neared the end of the second period.
Junior goalie Kyle Rosenzweig was outstanding, making several key saves for the Acorns while senior Scott Alexander was solid on defense.
Senior Conner Williamson scored Live Oak’s final goal off an assist from Costello, but it wasn’t enough.
