Live Oak got off to a fast start, but the middle two quarters didn’t go its way and it lost its Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division girls basketball opener 46-45 on Tuesday.

The Acorns (2-10, 0-1 BVAL) jumped out in control of the game with a 13-4 advantage in the first quarter.

But the Cardinals stormed back quickly, trimming the defecit to 22-19 by halftime.

Mt. Pleasant continued applying the pressure in the third quarter and took a one-point advantage into the fourth and held on for the victory.

Taylor Sutton led the way for Live Oak with 11 points, nine of them coming from the free-throw line. Kate Lowe and Megan Gulla each had nine points and Sarah Goodere and Clarissa Buenrostro added six.

None of that was enough to overcome Cardinals senior Sarah Dagnino. She dropped in 18 points, including three 3-pointers and seven points from the free-throw line in the victory.
