Turnabout was fair play for Live Oak on Thursday.

After losing to Del Mar 6-1 in their first meeting, the Acorns returned the favor beating the previously undefeated Dons 5-2, giving the Acorns not only short term vindication but also a shot at the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division championship.

With the win both squads are now 9-1. If they are tied at the end of the season, they will square off in a tiebreaker match that will determine the league champion.

In singles play, senior Eric Matsumoto lost his match 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Trevor Watson came away with a 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 win.

“I was able to mix it up,” said Watson. “I knew he tired quickly so I kept hitting deep balls to make him move. Knowing that he gets tired definitely helped me out.”

In other singles action, Yrbyn Davis won his match 6-3, 6-4 as did Jimmy Sheddon at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1.

The Acorns dominated In doubles, with Nos. 1 Aaron Melgar and Ryan Campbell winning 6-4, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Scott Alexander and Kevin Parsons won 6-4, 6-2. Mason Lammers and Kenny Lee lost at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-4.

With Del Mar atop the BVAL standings, Melgar knew the match was crucial for the Acorns. “We knew we had to beat them to get in CCS,” said Melgar. “We worked hard and used this game as motivation for us to get to the postseason.”

Sobrato 7, San Jose 0

The Sobrato tennis team knew was due to bust out.

And bust out the Bulldogs did, dominating San Jose Academy 7-0 for their second win in the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division.

“Psychologically, it was a great boost,” said Sobrato coach Randy Barbaglia. “Every match in tennis is night and day. It’s always a high to win a match 7-0.”

The Bulldogs were on top of their game, winning every match in two sets. Randy Pinkston won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0. Ronny Pollard had an equally impressive performance, winning at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2.

In the Nos. 3 and 4 slots, Nick Garber and Justin Haim got their first league wins. Garber won 6-2, 6-1, and Haim won his match, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles, John Knofler and Andrew Le breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Mike Ebrahimi and Jerry Kamagaraj were also dominant in a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The No. 3 doubles team of Morgan Parks and Robby Katz won by forfeit.

The Bulldogs lost last Thursday to Andrew Hill. Sobrato is next in action April 17 at James Lick.
