Both Acorns and Bulldogs girls soccer teams miss CCS
playoffs
Morgan Hill – The Live Oak Acorns girls soccer team ended their disappointing season on Thursday with a loss against the Salinas Cowboys, 1-0, while the Sobrato Bulldogs squad, who were on a three-game winning streak, also ended their season with a loss, 4-0, to Gilroy, leaving both teams out of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Live Oak fell to Salinas for the first time in the since the teams have played each other. The Cowboys lone goal came in the 39th minute of the first half on a penalty kick.

Live Oak had a rough second half of TCAL play and didn’t record a win, with two ties and three losses, taking them out of playoff contention.

Sobrato on the other hand was on an upswing in the second half of TCAL action, with three wins, two losses and one tie.

The Bulldogs battled against the first place Mustangs in their final matchup and went into the second half with the score tied at 0-0.

Gilroy’s offense stepped up in the second half, however, and pounded the Sobrato goal, finding the back of the net four times for the win.

Despite the improvement over the season, the Bulldogs still found themselves in sixth place in the TCAL.

The Acorns (4-6-7, 3-4-5 TCAL) and Bulldogs (6-10-2, 4-7-1 TCAL) faced each other on Tuesday and battled to a 1-1 tie.

Scoreless at the half in Tuesday’s game, Live Oak’s offense struck fast in the second half to take the lead 1-0, three minutes in.

Sobrato’s offense wouldn’t give up and finally in the 65th minute Ashley Grose found the back of the Acorns net off an assist from Kayla Nishimatsu to tie the game at 1-1.

Sobrato’s offense created scoring opportunities, but were only able to convert one of its 13 shots on the Acorn goal.
