“There are 10 traffic lights on Dunne Avenue from Hill Road to Monterey Road. Is there a plan, or can one be created, to synchronize the lights if you go a designated speed?”
strong>Red Phone: Dear Stopped, Red Phone contacted Senior Civil Engineer Scott Creer, who said the traffic signals on East Dunne Avenue were synchronized several years ago.
“However, due to the distance between several of the intersections on either end of the East Dunne Avenue corridor only the traffic signals from Peppertree Drive to Walnut Grove Drive were interconnected for synchronization purposes,” he said. “The synchronization programming that was implemented is only intended to optimize the flow of traffic during the a.m. and p.m. rush hours. During non-rush hours the traffic signals function on a standard traffic demand basis. Depending on the time of day this could result in a motorist being stopped for side street or off-ramp traffic at all of the synchronized intersections between Peppertree Drive and Walnut Grove Drive along East Dunne Avenue.”
Creer said to verify that the synchronization is functioning as designed, the city’s signal maintenance contractor has been asked to review the system.
There you have it, good caller.
Am I buying bottled water, or tap water?
“Hi, Red Phone, does anyone monitor water stores? We use the store on West Main and Hale avenues. Several months ago a new owner took over and the place has gone downhill and the water doesn’t taste so good. I don’t even see the lights on the reverse osmosis machines on anymore. I have asked the man that works there about it but he doesn’t seem to understand or speak English. I’m concerned and want to make sure we are not just paying for tap water. If so, I could use my own faucet. Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Eccchh, Red Phone contacted Anthony Eulo, program administrator for the city, who said there are state regulations on both bottled and vended water. You can find them at www.cdph.ca.gov/pubsforms/Pages/fdbBVWfaq.aspx#wvmsanit. In addition, the County Environmental Health Department is in charge of enforcing some of your complaints, depending on the type of store. If the store only sells water, then the state has jurisdiction. If there is any type of food sold, then the county has jurisdiction.
So, if it is just water they sell, check the state website, there are literally dozens of regulations and requirements, including for the reverse osmosis machine which is supposed to filter the water. If you think there are violations, contact the department via that website.
Hope that helps, good caller.
