You may think of the library as a serious place for research and
intellectual development, and it is, but the library is also an
excellent place to get a few laughs. No matter what type of humor
tickles your funny bone you’ll find something that suits you at the
library.
You may think of the library as a serious place for research and intellectual development, and it is, but the library is also an excellent place to get a few laughs. No matter what type of humor tickles your funny bone you’ll find something that suits you at the library.
We have all kinds of books to delight you: from Calvin and Hobbes or Garfield comic strip collections, to classics like Mark Twain or Voltaire, and modern humorists like David Sedaris, Lynda Barry, Calvin Trillin and Garrison Keillor. Try out a funny book-on-tape by Dave Barry or a comedy CD by George Carlin.
We have loads of great comedy videos and DVDs too. You can check out Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Monty Python, Richard Pryor and Fawlty Towers, The Honeymooners and Legally Blonde. From the screwball comedies of the ‘40’s to the teen comedies of today we’ll surely get you smiling, probably chuckling and maybe even a belly laugh or two.
If you are determined to stay serious, let us suggest a couple of books about humor: Lighten Up: Survival Skills for People Under Pressure by Metcalf & Felible, and Linda Richman’s I’d Rather Laugh: How to be Happy Even When Life Has Other Plans for You.
Laughter is therapeutic, it relieves stress. Remember the words of e.e. cummings; “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.”
And smile. Come by the library at the corner of Peak and Main for more suggestions to keep you smiling, or check us out online at www.santaclaracountylib.org
