Much thanks to LOHS FFA for a wonderful and memorable evening
Dear Editor,
We senior citizens here in the senior mobile home park, Hacienda Valley, on Burnett, next to the high school, are used to feeling mostly forgotten, especially by those people of high school age. Studies have shown that, in our nation, there is hardly any understanding or interaction between seniors and the young adults.
This past Saturday night (Nov. 21), however, that was certainly not the case. The Future Farmers of America from Live Oak High School gave us the royal treatment for a Thanksgiving meal that none of us will soon forget! As you can see, the decor of our club house was transformed into something from a movie set. And that was just the beginning.
They prepared a wonderful meal for us, some of it having been donated by area restaurants. The wonderful caterer, Heidi, put everything together.
The students performed the role of food servers, as well as set up and take down workers. They also delivered meals to those who could not get out of their homes to our event. It was a wonderful evening.
For some of us – who can tell whom – it might be the last fancy meal of our lives. We are all very grateful for this lovely evening.
Much thanks to all of the wonderful Future Farmers of America at Live Oak High School!
The seniors in Hacienda Mobile Home Park, Morgan Hill
City, SCVWD, hold community meeting on flood protection
Dear Editor,
Now that the rainy season is here and we’ve already had one significant storm, we recognize the importance of leveraging our resources to best serve the community. This is why the Santa Clara Valley Water District and city of Morgan Hill are holding a community meeting on flood protection for Morgan Hill.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center’s El Toro Room, located at 17000 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill.
This meeting will provide an opportunity for Morgan Hill residents to talk with the city and the water district about concerns for flooding and ask questions.
You’ll remember on Oct. 13 when about six inches of rain that fell in 24 hours caused flooding in the downtown area and throughout portions of the city. Streets, businesses and homes were flooded and approximately 30 people were displaced.
At the Dec. 8 meeting we’ll review flood maps, discuss the city’s and water district’s preparation prior to the storm and actions taken to alleviate flooding during the storm.
We’ll also discuss how the water district and city can work even more collaboratively when we’re faced with storms of this magnitude. And we’ll provide a status update on the Upper Llagas Flood Protection Project.
We do hope residents will attend this meeting and look forward to hearing their input.
Beau Goldie, CEO, Santa Clara Valley Water District and Ed Tewes, City Manager, Morgan Hill
