The Nov. 5 ballot will be complex, with candidates and issues at every level of government.
Local voters should grab every chance to inform themselves about our local candidates and issues. Voters will have the opportunity to get together with the candidates and ask direct questions at three public forums in September. All three will be held in the Morgan Hill City Council Chambers, 17555 Peak Ave., from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday evenings, and will be broadcast on the City of Morgan Hill YouTube channel.
The first forum, on Sept. 12, will present the candidates for Morgan Hill Mayor: Incumbent Mark Turner and Yvonne Martinez Beltran.
The second forum, on Sept. 19, will gather the nonpartisan candidates for the Morgan Hill Unified School District: Trustee Area 5—incumbent Ivan Rosales Montes is not seeking re-election; Tyler Smith and Sabri Berisha have declared their candidacy. In Trustee Area 6, incumbent Mary Patterson will face Rebecca Munson. In Trustee Area 7, incumbent Adam Escoto is not seeking reelection; his seat will fall to either Tom Pocus or Veronica Andrade.

The final forum, on Sept. 26, will present the candidates for Morgan Hill City Council: In District A, incumbent Gino Borgioli is not running for reelection; David Dindak and Miriam Vega will face off for his seat.
In District C, incumbent Rene Spring is not running for reelection; his seat is being sought by Soraida Iwanaga and Michael Orosco.
For the treasurer’s office, Cindy Murphy is running unopposed
These forums have been organized by the Morgan Hill branch of the American Association of University Women and the City of Morgan Hill. AAUW members will facilitate and moderate the forums.
Questions for the candidates can be submitted to pu**********@aa****.org by Sept. 8.
Each forum will follow the same format. The facilitator will introduce the candidates and other participants, and the moderator will direct questions submitted by the public to each candidate. All candidates will be held to time limits.
