Sabean, Giants walking a thin line

Bulldogs build leads in both games this week, but can’t finish
off Longhorns
MORGAN HILL — On the same day the Sobrato baseball team commissioned its new $35,000 scoreboard, the visiting Leigh Longhorns stole part of the spotlight.

Tyler Lanham (2-1) pitched a complete game and drove in two runs, Travis Velo batted 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, and Leigh clinched a two-game sweep over the Bulldogs with a 5-2 victory Thursday in Blossom Valley Athletic League-Mount Hamilton Division play.

The Longhorns (5-3 overall, 3-1 BVAL), who last year matched Live Oak with the best record in the division, nipped Sobrato 8-2 Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (1-5, 1-3) were on pace to even the series Thursday after building a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Leigh rallied for three runs in the fifth inning, though, and put two more across in the sixth and seventh.

Sobrato’s Brian Bradley drove in his brother, Chris Bradley, who doubled. Brian Bradley finished 2 for 3 and scored off the bat of Tim Andrade.

Bulldogs starter Shea Adams took the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits in as many innings. He struck out a half dozen.

Sobrato jumped out to another 2-0 lead Tuesday, scoring twice in the first inning, but the Longhorns answered with one run in the bottom half and three in the fourth off Chris Bradley (0-1). They put four runs across in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs totaled nine hits, including two by Adams, Ryan Williams and Kaleo Correa. Williams went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Adams and Billy Birrell scored.

Velo drove in two runs and scored for Leigh, and Mark Mercer picked up his first win this year.
