Mayor Steve Tate (holding microphone) addresses the crowd just before the ribbon is cut at the dedication of the Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2011 project at the Community and Cultural Center Saturday.
The project consisted of an engraved brick bench and planter memorial on the CCC’s grounds, adjacent to the city amphitheater. The class project raised $25,000 for local youth organizations to expand their services for the community’s underserved children, according to class member Dina Pipkin.
Organizations benefiting from the donation include the El Toro Youth Center, the Community Sports Mentor Program, Boy Scouts troops 709 and 799, Girl Scouts troop 640, Future Business Leaders of America of Live Oak High School, the Morgan Hill Police Young Explorers program, and Future Farmers of America of Live Oak and Sobrato high schools.
The class raised money by allowing local residents, businesses and organizations to sponsor individual bricks, engraved with their names and logos, used for construction in the project.
The Santa Clara County board of supervisors praised the class and its project with a special commendation at Tuesday’s board meeting, Pipkin said.
