Tickets are going fast for a black tie-optional Leadership Morgan Hill Dinner honoring former longtime Live Oak Band Teacher Mike Rubino.

Bob Martin, Leadership Morgan Hill’s president, said 85 percent of the $125 tickets have already been sold and he expects the remaining ones to be gone by the dinner next weekend.

Martin said the dinner is a fundraising benefit for Leadership Morgan Hill featuring the Live Oak Emerald Regime band director of 27 years. He will receive a leadership award for his commitment to the Morgan Hill community, event chair Jennifer Tate said.

“He was chosen because of his leadership skills in the music world,” Tate said. “He put together a remarkable program for elementary music. He made sure every child in the Morgan Hill School District (was exposed to music). He went above and beyond what he should have been doing. He personified the type of leadership Leadership Morgan Hill looks for in leaders.”

Leadership Morgan Hill is a class started 11 years ago as part of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce to inspire leaders to give back to the community. Three years ago, it became its own organization. Organizers held a dinner as a fundraising event where they presented an award to a community leader each year. This is the third year a leadership award has been presented.

This is the third time in as many years the leadership award has been handed out.

Tate said there are no real guidelines for choosing a winner because leadership styles vary among people.

To take part in Leadership Morgan Hill, there is an application form followed by an interview process. Forms are available on line at the chamber web site at www.morganhill.org and click on leadership. The deadline to apply for 2006 is Nov. 15.
