Three approaching storm fronts expected to hit South County over the next few days will not bring as much rain as the previous one that caused flooding throughout Morgan Hill, according to Ana Schneider, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
A total of one to one-and-half inches of rain is estimated from Wednesday to Monday morning (Jan. 23), Schneider added. Last week’s series of storms dropped more than nine inches in South County.
The first upcoming front, which will touch down Jan. 18 in the early morning to early afternoon and linger through Thursday morning, is expected to bring three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. That is the largest of the three storm systems.
A wind advisory is also in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday with strong southernly winds expected to reach 40 to 45 MPH.
The second front, which will pass through the South County area later Thursday and into Friday night, will dump smaller amounts of rain. And the third front, which will start up Saturday and into early Sunday is expected to drop one-quarter inch of rainfall, according to the latest NWS forecast.
According to Santa Clara Valley Water District gauges, which can be viewed at valleywater.org, Morgan Hill has taken in 22.64 inches of rainfall this season at the Edmunson Ave. location; 20.08 inches at West Little Llagas; and 34.53 at Uvas Reservoir.
