Dariano’s long fourth-quarter TD run breaks scoreless tie as
Morgan Hill tops Coyote Creek
San Jose – Morgan Hill waited three quarters and six minutes before finally breaking through for the winning score on a 51-yard romp by Matt Dariano in a 6-0 win over Coyote Creek.

The Raiders ran for 150 yards from scrimmage and picked up six first downs, but 50 yards in penalties and three fumbles kept the Wildcats in the game until late into the fourth quarter.

The defense played well, allowing 63 yards. Timothy Camarillo led the defense with four solo tackles and one assist, making a potentially game-saving tackle on the following kick off after the Raiders scored the late touchdown.

Hunter Sutton, David Salah, and Danny Saporito each had three solo tackles. Saporito also intercepted a pass on the Wildcats last drive.

The offense struggled most of the day until Dariano, behind the strong blocking of Andrew Martinez and Ronnie Bryant, broke off the big 51-yard run. Tazmond Carrasco made a nice down field block to spring a screen play to Frankie Palmer for a first down from his wide receiver spot.

Palmer went for 34 yards on nine touches while Dariano ran for 66 yards on seven tries.

San Jose – In a physical contest, the Coyote Creek Wildcats punishing ground game gave the Morgan Hill Raiders a taste of their own medicine.

Their talented rushers broke off a pair of long touchdown runs in the first quarter to stake a 12-0 lead and their ability to control the ball kept the Morgan Hill offense off the field for much of the first quarter.

The Raiders started the second quarter by being forced to punt, and Coyote Creek took advantage of getting the ball back by methodically using the running game to drive it down the field to kill more than nine minutes minutes off the clock.

On that drive, Garrett White made a key tackle that was aided by a holding penalty and Austin Holderfield recorded an open field tackle to bring an end to a 22-yard Wildcat run. Trevor Bearden added another big stop, but Coyote Creek continue to pick up first downs and keep the drive alive.

The Raiders defense finally ended the drive when Brandon Duran stripped the ball and fell on the fumble.

Morgan Hill’s ground game, which had been dominating and time-consuming throughout the season, was held to just 72 yards rushing and the Wildcats proved to be the team that moved the ball at will on the ground.

In the third quarter, Mitch Crowley, Nathan Batad and White teamed up again on a big stop to keep Coyote Creek out of the end zone and keep the score 12-0 entering the fourth quarter.

The final frame got off to a good start with the Raiders’ Jesse Sanchez dragging down a Wildcats ball carrier at the 5-yard line to save a touchdown. Tommy Naranjo also provided several key assists on the drive and frustrated the Wildcats.

Morgan Hill established its running game on its final drive of the game, moving 50 yards before its drive ended when time expired with the ball at the 2-yard line. Bearden broke a long run on the drive, aided by key blocks from Taylor Pullen, Matthew Jarvis and Kyle Quadros.

Quadros and Crowley led the defense’s effort with one solo tackles and six assists each. Duran had one solo and five assists, Holderfield has three assists and Sanchez had one solo and two assists.

The Raiders look to end their losing streak and scoreless slide when they take on Santa Clara at home Sunday.
