The Gavilan College women’s basketball team suffered a 72-52 defeat to Ohlone College Thursday and lost a tight 70-69 game to Hartnell on Saturday.
The Rams had the tying play all set up and beat the buzzer, but the shot was ruled to be inside the three-point line, leaving the Rams one point short.
Gavilan was ahead 32-24 at the half, but Hartnell came back four minutes in to the second half to pull ahead. Each team had five threes. Antoinette Bowe, Stacey Perrien and Nichole Donloy each had 14 points for the Rams. Live Oak grad Andrea Lupina had 9.
The Rams played another hard-fought game on Thursday.
“We played the best game we ever played all year,” said head coach Michelle Mannisto despite the 20-point loss. “Ohlone beat some top ranked teams this year. They are a really tough team.”
The Lady Rams were ahead by eight with three minutes left in the first half before foul trouble placed two starters on the bench – allowing Ohlone to rally for a 10-point halftime lead.
In the second half, two Lady Rams fouled out with 15 minutes to go so the team had only five players to finish out the game.
“We did the best we could with what we had going on,” Mannisto said. “It was the first time this year that I felt really good about our team.”
Freshman Keisha Webster finished with 13 points, while freshman Noreen Bailey added 10 points for the Lady Rams.
The Gavilan men’s team lost to Butte College 58-41 on Friday and lost to Yuba College 93-53 on Saturday.
