Dear Editor,

On Monday morning I went to The Times office and canceled my subscription. I did this without hesitation. I read The Times to get local news and keep up with current events. I have lived in Morgan Hill all my life and I am 58 years old.

I feel the editorial endorsing John Kerry for president in the Oct. 30 edition of The Times was a very divisive, slanted and insulting view for anyone not agreeing with the opinion stated. I will say that I did not agree with anything that was stated except that Kerry was hardly inspiring and has a very poor voting record.

The writer gives the impression that anyone who leans toward the right is somehow a lesser person for it. I realize that most newspapers and TV stations lean toward the left. Thank goodness we have freedom of speech and they have the right to do this. I exercise my rights to not support this newspaper, and this viewpoint by canceling my subscription.

I felt insulted by the whole tone of the editorial. Coincidentally, the editor called me Tuesday night to discuss my decision. He hoped that I may reconsider. In the conversation he said the owners of the paper wanted to make endorsements on all election candidates and issues. This only confirmed my decision to cancel. I do not need someone to tell me how to vote and insult me in the same message.

I give my thanks to the men and women in the military who are fighting for my rights. I also thank the paper for being able to state my opinion.

Wally Adams, Morgan Hill
