Senior Erick Justesen wrapped up the regular portion of the Tri-County Athletic League by shooting a 39 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course on Thursday.

That gives him the league’s low scoring mark at three over par for the season. As a team, Live Oak placed second in the match with a 173 behind Gilroy’s 163. Salinas came in third with a 176.

Justesen was even par coming into the match and was 10 strokes ahead of his next closest competitor.

“I didn’t play bad. I didn’t play good,” Justesen said. “One bad shot kind of cost me. I had a snowman on four. But then I evened it out after that. I kind of wanted to go under par for the season.”

Other Live Oak scorers were Jarred Anderson 42, Kevan Tan 45, Jacob Amaya 47, Scott Daly and Shawn Woodland 50.

The TCAL final is sceduled for April 29 at Quail Lodge CC in Carmel Valley. The top three players and teams advance to the Central Coast Section playoffs. Last year Justesen scored a 76 and didn’t qualify for CCS. But this year he hopes it will be different.

“The way I have been playing it shouldn’t be a problem, but it is a wierd game,” Justesen said. “I am really hoping this is the year. It is a goal of mine. I don’t want to do it; I need to do it (make CCS). I don’t think I have done it since my freshman year.”

Justesen has seen the course at Quail Lodge a couple times so he knows what to expect. One the times he played there was in a celebrity challenge when he was attending Hollister High School. He said he would like to check out the lay of the land before the match although he probably won’t be able to golf there.

“You have to play placement golf,” Justesen said. “The holes are not very forgiving. It is not a wide course, so you will hit a lot of irons off the tees. I hit the ball farelly long, but at Qual Lodge it is not going to matter as much. The better ball striker will score low there.”

“Overall for the season I am pretty happy with how I played,” Justesen added. “Last couple rounds it seems like I totally lost my swing. I got it back a little towards the end today.”
