Anyone who wants to get an up-close look at Morgan Hill parks or offer suggestions, criticism or feedback about the facilities to City officials can join the Parks and Recreation Commission Saturday for a tour of nine City parks.

The Morgan Hill PRC called the special meeting, which starts 9 a.m. at the Community Park, 171 W. Edmundson Ave., to encourage more resident involvement in local public parks, and to promote the City’s Adopt A Park program.

“We’re looking to create an awareness of the parks we have in our town, and hopefully involve the community in taking pride and ownership in what we have,” said Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation Commissioner Kimberly Leiser. “And we welcome any input for parks improvements.”

Commissioner Marty Cheek added the seven-member PRC will actively be looking for areas within the parks that need improvements or additions during the tour.

The commission and City staff are also hoping to enlist organized support for City parks through the Adopt-A-Park program, Leiser said. Residents can help through this program by volunteering to keep a particular park clean or donate materials to improve the parks such as tables, benches or walkways.

Leiser noted that many improvements have been made to local parks through donations of time and supplies by private citizens and groups, including the Morgan Hill Tennis Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Dog Park users.

The PRC and any residents who wish to join the commission on Saturday’s tour will visit each of the following parks, no earlier than the following times:

-Galvan Park, 17666 Crest Ave. (9:30 a.m.)

-Sanchez Park, 130 Sanchez Drive (9:40 a.m.)

-Bell Estates Park, 490 Calle Caballeria (9:45 a.m.)

-Diana Park, 500 Diana Ave. (9:55 a.m.)

-Stone Creek Park, Rosemary Circle (10:05 a.m.)

-Nordstrom Park, Corner of Murphy and East Dunne avenues (10:15 a.m.)

-Jackson Park, 16695 Trail Drive (10:30 a.m.)

-Oak Creek Park, 14795 Excalibur Drive (10:45 a.m.)

-Howard Wiechert Park, 860 Via Del Castille (10:55 a.m.)
