James Robert Price died Jan. 19, 2004, in Gilroy.
A loving husband, a fantastic father, a generous grandfather, and a loyal friend, he will be missed by all who knew him. He was born in Belzoni, Missouri, on Nov. 24, 1925, and with his parents, Ralph and Ella, three brothers and one sister made the great migration to California’s Central Valley in 1934.
He served his country as a staff sergeant in World War II, and was a lifelong patriot who loved his flag and country. He was a devoted Christian who lived his faith every day and in every way.
He was an astute entrepreneur, starting several successful businesses during his life. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved great food (particularly down home Southern cooking), fine wine and good friends. In his youth, he was a pilot who enjoyed the freedom of flying. In later years, he became a world traveler enjoying cruises to exotic ports.
He was the ultimate optimist whose favorite saying was “Today is another day of golden opportunity”!
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne; daughters Sandy, Sherry, and Beth; sons-in-law Paul, John and Gary; grandchildren Chris, Amanda, Ashley, Daniel, Alexis and Ryan; sister Lois; and brothers Paul, Jack and David.
A memorial service was today, Jan. 23, at Advent Lutheran Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to the Clinical Cancer Center, Stanford Medical Center, c/o Dr. Charlotte Jacobs, 1000 Welch Road, Suite 202, Palo Alto, CA 94303 in the hope that cancer can be cured.
