I LOVE Morgan Hill members will host a free backpack giveaway for local children from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center (17000 Monterey Road).
Pastor Gary Palacios’ Morgan Hill-based nonprofit community outreach group, developed through the Cathedral of Faith congregation, is currently seeking donations from any businesses or private citizens to help in the purchase of new backpacks and supplies for the event.
Donations—including money or new backpacks and supplies—are being collected through July and can be delivered to the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, where the Cathedral of Faith holds its meetings, or at Intero Real Estate (175 E. Main Ave.). Donors can also contact the Cathedral of Faith at (408) 267-4691 or gp*******@ca**************.org.
All donations will be given to children in need in the city of Morgan Hill, according to organizers.
The Morgan Hill chapter of the Cathedral of Faith has grown to 250 strong since it was established six years ago as part of a larger 12,000-member national movement. It also runs a family harvest food program the second Tuesday of each month at the MHCCC.
In the days leading up to Christmas 2014, its members served up some holiday cooking, handed out gift-wrapped toys and comfy winter coats, and even corralled Santa Claus to supply some added holiday cheer and photo ops for more than 1,000 needy families. That event was also held at the MHCCC.
