The Morgan Hill Times, Gilroy Dispatch, Hollister Free Lance, Sunday Pinnacle and Saint Louise Regional Hospital are hosting South County Reaches Out: Live Aid Benefit Concert for American Red Cross Hurricane Relief at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy on Oct. 22 from 1-6pm.

Sha Boom, a Gilroy oldies band with a huge fan base, San Jose-based group Daddy-O, celebrity emcee Stephen Sorrentino of the popular Las Vegas and Atlantic City show “Voices in my Head,” and more than 15 celebrity impersonators are performing, including a Tina Turner impersonator whose New Orleans home and business sustained damage in Hurricane Katrina’s wrath.

“I feel that I have been truly blessed and one of the more fortunate survivors,” said Hollie Vest, a Tina Turner impersonator. “This is one reason why I want to help those folks who lost everything in this horrid disaster. My financial situation as a result of this is very limited, but I do have my talent and I am willing to do all that I can to help raise funds to rebuild the city that I so dearly love.”

Although her home and bed and breakfast sustained extensive damage, Vest is performing at the benefit concert to raise money for other victims of the hurricane who were less fortunate and will be joined on stage by other performers who are donating their time and talent to raise money for charity.

“Entertainers are, without a doubt, the most generous people,” said Linda Collins, owner of Classique Productions, the concert’s talent producer. “They always want to give back; sometimes financially, other times with their talent. This particular cause touches the heart. Almost everyone knows someone who was affected by the hurricanes.”

Between sets from the bands including California Beach Party and The Woogie Men, which feature piano tunes similar to Jerry Lee Lewis, celebrity impersonators will take the stage as The Blues Brothers, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Kenny Rogers, Selena, John Denver, Clint Eastwood, Billy Joel, Mick Jagger, Travis Tritt, Gwen Stefani and Liza Minelli.

All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit the 2005 Hurricane Relief Effort. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Tickets may be purchased at the event or at the Morgan Hill Times or the offices of the major sponsors.
