Dear Editor,
On behalf of the South County Council of the United Way Silicon Valley, I would like the community to know of the support by one of the new businesses in town.
The House of Thunder, the local Harley Davidson dealer, has twice held events for the public and donated the proceeds to United Way. The management appro-ached the United Way several months ago and said they have had a fine relationship with UW in the past, and wanted to continue that experience here in South County. On behalf of those who will be served with the precious funds, thank you.
I would also like to thank five companies and their 162 volunteers who helped at eight UW agencies at our Sept. 9 Day of Caring, a collaboration between companies and others and our nonprofits to complete projects that assist their clients, but don’t get done for a variety of reasons. This year, there were 14 projects- six painting, five landscaping, two sanding and one ice cream social. The thanks go out to IBM, Agilent, Hospira, Paramit and Santa Clara University.
If you or anyone you know would like to help out next year at our Day of Caring, please call Mark Tolley at 345-4306 or e-mail to
Ma*********@uw**.org
. And, as a Council we are always looking for new members.
We meet approximately once every other month where we work to educate the community on the good deeds of our agencies. I may be reached at 683-4319. For more info on the United Way Silicon Valley, visit itsweb site at www.uwsv.org
