Gavilan football players suspended, game forfeited for partying

Chris Read led all scorers with 17 points, and Ohlone College’s men’s basketball team took advantage of size mismatches all over the floor on its way to a 74-48 victory at Gavilan College on Friday night in Bud Ottmar Memorial Gym.
Read, a 6-foot-4 sophomore swingman, scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half to help the Renegades (11-4) build a 41-17 halftime lead. He was one of 13 players who scored for Ohlone.
“The first eight or nine minutes, I think we did a great job,” Gavilan coach Tito Addison said. “I think we started missing shots, and that started to predicate how we played defense. We started giving up easier shots on the other end.”
Freshman point guard Joel Sales led Gavilan (3-8) with nine points. Matt Johnson hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points for the Rams, who got seven points from Davontea Johnson and six points from Billy Heard.
Warren Wright scored nine points for Ohlone, and Andy Mitchell and Henry McCarthy added eight points each.
