Marisa Faust: Mt. Madonna YMCA 2003 Teen Volunteer of the Year
Marisa Faust, 10, has been described as the Star of the Paradise Valley child care center. Encouraged by her parents, she became involved in Y activities as a Youth Leader Trainer. Soon Marisa was volunteering not only in child care programs at the branch during the school year, but also in after school and summer child care programs. In the year and a half she has been volunteering with the Mt. Madonna YMCA, Marisa has helped coordinate Lights On! Activities to highlight after school programs at her branch, and was the principle organizer of a talent show during the October 2003 Lights On! Open House event. In addition, she helped organize the branch’s 1st Annual Holiday Dinner event involving all the child care sites and staff A Taste of Morgan Hill YMCA information booth.
Marisa uses her leadership skills to encourage child care participants to use their imaginations, and engages their interest in school projects and Y events. She is described by those who work with her as teaching and demonstrating the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility to all the children and youth she encounters.

Cricket Rubino: Mt. Madonna YMCA 2003 Adult Volunteer of the Year
Cricket Rubino has an affinity for interacting with youth. Her background working with high school students for over a quarter of a century has given her the hands-on experience to become a strong champion of Developmental Assets, the essential “building blocks” that all kids need in order to grow into healthy adults.
Her two adult children became involved with the Mt. Madonna YMCA’s swimming, soccer and baseball programs when they were growing up, so Cricket has had the advantage of experiencing the Y as a program member and volunteer. That perspective has motivated her to raise approximately $6,000 toward Community Support Campaigns and she has recruited many other campaigners to raise funds for the YMCA. She is a member of the YMCA’s Triangle Associates and has served on the Board of Managers since 2002. In addition, she serves on the Board Development Committee. The Mt. Madonna YMCA staff says they are inspired to work with Cricket and that she brings energy and enthusiasm to any project with which she is involved and that she never fails to perform above expectations.
Rubino is also involved in Leadership Morgan Hill, and was director of the Live Oak High School Color Guard for 27 years, working with her husband, who was the band director. She also volunteers at many events at the Mt. Madonna YMCA.
