The past week was extremely eventful for the students at Live Oak. The student body was busy preparing for Spirit Week, the basketball homecoming, the rally, and the Decades Dance.
Last week was Spirit Week. Each day was given a theme to promote school spirit. Monday was designated as Pajama Day. Students came to school dressed in array of pajamas, slippers, and bathrobes. Tuesday was Twin Day followed by Snow Day. Thursday was themed Hillbilly Day and Friday was Spirit Day.
On Friday students wore their class colors: sophomores wore gray, juniors wore green, and seniors wore gold. Friday was also the day of the basketball homecoming rally. Green and gold balloons were dispersed throughout campus to help decorate for the homecoming games. The gym was also decorated with posters for each basketball player as well as balloons and ribbons. The rally was quite a success.
The Live Oak Color Guard preformed in the rally for the first time this school year. Their performance included flags, sabers and rifles. The Live Oak Dance Co. also preformed in the rally. The dance team did a routine to rapper Eminem’s song, “Lose Yourself.”
Students, Minuet and Dominic Ingram also performed in the rally. They sang along to a new hip-hop song in order to promote the Live Oak Lip Scene Thursday.
Although the rally was full of performers, the main focus was on the basketball teams. The varsity girl’s basketball team demonstrated their lay-ups and dribbling skills and was later introduced by their coach. Following the Lady Nuts was the varsity boys basketball team. Coach Paloucci introduced the boy’s team. The rally certainly boosted the spirit for the basket ball games.
Later Friday night, the varsity gir’s basketball team played against Hollister. The girls played a good game but unfortunately lost to the Haybalers. Following the girls was the boy’s basketball game. The varsity boys defeated Hollister 54-45.
During the half time of the boys’ game, the Senior Homecoming Queen and King were crowned. For the first time in the history of Live Oak there was a tie for the Homecoming Queen. The crown went to Christina Alosi-Mayer and Carly Pedersen. Gavin Kolodge was crowned Homecoming King.
Friday did not mark the end to all the excitement. On Saturday was the Decades Dance. Although the turnout was small, students had a lot of fun. Students wore costumes from all decades and danced the night away. There was also a limbo contest and a contest for the best costume.
Homecoming week was extremely exciting and eventful. There was an abundance of school spirit and student participation. Students still have the Lip Scene on Thursday to look forward to as well as Winter Break.
This year’s basketball homecoming was a big success.
