The City Council cannot assume that the lack of voter contact on raising taxes is any, I repeat, any indication of support. I don’t think the community is aware.

Council must do much more than passively wait and see who will come to council meetings. Council must inform the Community and constructively ask for input. Many do not read The Times or any other local newspaper to get any form of community information. Council must actively go to the community and not wait for the community to come to them.

As for any taxes, I for one am not in support of any new taxes. These are tough economic times, with higher costs from beef to gasoline. It time for restraint. Before I would even consider approving a tax measure, council must begin reducing services and staff. That is what others are doing and that is what we must do as well. Passing along extra charges, higher taxes and higher fees for water to fund questionable projects and costly services just does not sit well in these tough economic times.

To raise taxes without community support will certainly deserve a reaction in the November elections.
