A 26-year-old motorcyclist was injured in a single vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in north Morgan Hill.
According to Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson, Richard Valencia was traveling on Madrone Parkway on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.
“He was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, to fast to negotiate a turn in the road,” Sampson said. “When he could not make the turn, his motorcycle apparently hit the curb, and he might have run into one of the trees in the area.”
It was not clear, Sampson said, where Valencia lives.
Valencia was wearing a helmet, and the visor was smashed, said Sampson, although Valencia was on his feet, conscious and talking when officers arrived on the scene.
When paramedics arrived, however, they determined he had head injuries that needed attention. He was air-lifted by Lifeflight for treatment. It was not clear whether he was flown to Valley Medical Center, Stanford Hospital or San Jose Regional.
MHPD dispatchers received quite a few calls about the accident, Sampson said, likely from drivers in the area on their cell phones.
