A very wise book says in the Chapter of First Corinthians,
verse/phrase 14,
“Now the body is not made up of one part but of many,” and from
verse 26, “if one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one
part is honored every part rejoices with it.” The book I have
quoted is from the New International Version Bible for those who
would like to read a bit more.

I carry these images with me always as it integrates my studies in Community Development with my passion for connecting people and resources; being a catalyst for change, and a stirrer of the pot. I view Morgan Hill with its approximate population of 39,000 as the body. Parts of it are the 11,107 who are aged 18 years and younger, as well as the 5,163 who are 55 years and older.

Other parts are our city government, private, public and home schooled students and their parents and teachers, our Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Morgan Hill, Community Foundation, clubs and organizations, churches, etc. All of these make up the diversity and sameness of Morgan Hill. We are different yet the same as other cities.

I also view our city holistically … what happens to one part, impacts another part of the body … So when I realized that our public schools (Gilroy reflects these numbers also) have one counselor for academic, career, vocational and personal counseling for every 500 or more students, I wonder how this impacts our community.

In asking this question, I realized the vastness of the answer, so I gave a call to Dennis Browne at our Community Adult School to see if we could offer some classes that would be of assistance to our students and parents. Plans are being made for a meeting on Feb. 2, 2-5pm at the Community Adult School, 17940 Monterey Road, that will enable interested community members to gather to discuss how we might be of assistance to students and parents through classes, possible conferences and career days. If you would like to be part of this discussion, please contact me at maryellen_salzano@ yahoo.com

I recently received an email with some great safety information. It advised to keep a watch for people standing near you in check out lines with a camera cell phone in their hand while at retail stores, restaurants and ATM’s. They can take a picture of your credit card which shows them your name, credit card number and expiration date.
