The Bay Area Chrysanthemum Growers Association, in conjunction with the University of California Cooperative Extension Small Farm Program and the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau, will hold a Heat Illness Prevention workshop for Chinese growers Friday in Morgan Hill, according to Farm Bureau Executive Director Jennifer Scheer.
“It’ll be presented in English and translated into Chinese,” Scheer said.
The workshop will feature speakers from Cal/OSHA and Renee Bacchini, special assistant to the director of Industrial Relations.
“They’ll be talking about water, rest, shade and the stipulations about how much of each are needed,” Scheer said.
Using the recent heat wave that gripped the Central Valley as an example, she underscored the necessity for agricultural workers to understand how dangerous hot weather can be.
“It’s unfortunate that it ever happens, but there were some recent deaths,” she noted.
The workshop will be held from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at the BACGA building, 15075 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill.
