A Morgan Hill resident was sent to the hospital following a head-on collision Thursday morning on Condit Road south of Main Avenue Thursday.

Jose Cintron, 31, of Morgan Hill was air lifted by Calstar to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center when his Honda Accord collided head on with a Ford F-250 driven by San Jose’s Douglas Abend, 59. As of Friday, Cintron was still in critical condition.

The accident occurred just before 10am when Cintron attempted to pass a Dodge Ram driven by Joseph Bently, 56, of San Martin while traveling northbound on Condit. According to the California Highway Patrol, Cintron clipped the Dodge before colliding with the Ford.

CHP Public Affairs Officer Chris Armstrong said Abend attempted to swerve out of the way of Cintron’s Accord, but was unable to prevent the accident.

The Ford flipped on its side and came to rest next to the Accord on the west side of the road.

Cintron was trapped in his car immediately after the accident and firefighters with California Department of Forestry and the Santa Clara County Fire Department had to cut Cintron free from his vehicle.

The accident closed Condit Road from Diana to Main avenues for about an hour and a half while emergency crews cleaned up the accident scene.

Armstrong said CHP will continue to investigate the accident. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.
